There can be plenty of excuses (made up or real) for you not to get active. Here are some common barriers that many of us face, along with helpful hints and solutions to try and overcome such barriers.
“I’m so busy, I just don’t have the time.”
There are 168 hours in a week. Considering all of the amazing benefits we can gain from exercise, dedicating 30-45mins once or twice a week, to the ‘let’s take care of our body cause’, seems like a small sacrifice to make. At Dan’s PT4U, we try to make exercise fun and interesting. When it’s done that way, it doesn’t feel like a sacrifice at all and once the endorphins kick in you’ll feel like you’ve accomplished something good for the day. Studies on global Chief Executive Officers have revealed that the most successful of these people are the ones who make time for exercise. If they can do it, you can too.
“I don’t like gyms. They are intimidating! Sometimes there are show-offs or big sweaty strangers that I have to share the equipment with. I am unfamiliar with some of the machines and nobody will show you how to use them, let alone knowing what muscles they are supposed to work.”
Having a safe, fully equipped and privately owned home studio is a huge advantage over our competitors. There is nobody there to judge you if you think you may be doing an exercise incorrectly. Just a friendly and helpful trainer named Dan, who is always there, to safely guide you and provide you with good instruction and positive feedback. Click on location to find the Home Studio.
“I’m sorry, I’m not ready for boot camp. I’m too unfit. It would be just too embarrassing!”
Our boot camps are like a mini community where nobody judges you but instead, supports you and celebrates in your achievements and successes. All exercises can be scaled to your level of fitness and many of our participants have brought family or friends along for first time support (and they have ended up returning again and again, having witnessed the fun and variety of our boot camp games and exercises!). You can also click on location to find our boot camps.
“I would love to exercise regularly….. but what would I do with my kids?
Dan is a parent of two boys, both currently attending Holy Saviour Primary School. He knows how hard it is to find the time to exercise around looking after the children. That is why he has incorporated a big screen TV with a computer game console inside the home studio. You can workout and fully supervise your child at the same time. There is also a cubby house and lots of toys and books for kids of all ages. Many of the other parents also bring their children to the boot camps. There is a large playground situated along the oval, which is away from the main roads, where the kids hang out while you get fit. All of the children are invited to participate in some of the boot camp games such as tunnel ball and tug-of-war.
“It gets too cold and wet in winter and too hot in summer to exercise. I really can’t be bothered!”
One of the best things about your body is that it is clever enough to regulate its operating temperature. It has an amazing way of adapting to all of the elements that Melbourne can throw at you in one day. Exercise is the best way to acclimatise your body to these conditions. At Dan’s home studio we can also regulate the temperature by use of ducted heating, air-conditioning and fans to make it more comfortable for your workout. At the boot camp there is plenty of shade and shelter if the weather gets too extreme. If the thought of bad weather is putting you off, sometimes the thought of everyone else turning up is enough to get you over the line, and afterwards you feel much better for it. What have you got to lose?
